Duet
Chick Corea & Hiromi
Chick has a long history of piano duets, but he’s never done anything quite like his Duet with the brilliant young Japanese pianist Hiromi.
They take the adventurous set list—including tunes by Thelonious Monk and Lennon & McCartney—to an ethereal new level, trading fleet-fingered solos over deep connective rhythms. The performances are filled with light. This is what it sounds like when two geniuses decide to have a bit of fun.
It’s fitting that the two play together now, as one of Hiromi’s first public permances was with Chick in Tokyo. The then-17 year old pianist met Chick by chance, and impressed him with a brief improvisation. They played a duet at his concert the next night. Here they meet at the famed Blue Note Jazz Club in Tokyo.
The result is an unprecedented collection of joyrides through the history of piano jazz.
