Jazz Online, the creators of the Jazz Backstage podcast, just posted a really fantastic interview with the legendary Roy Haynes — a titan of the drums and a frequent collaborator of Chick’s.
Roy talks about a certain flat ride cymbal that Chick “borrowed” one day in the early ’60s, and never managed to give back.
The cymbal can be heard on many of Chick’s best-known recordings, including Now He Sings, Now He Sobs, with Mr. Haynes himself.
