Bloomberg Businessweek talked to Chick this week as he approaches the halfway point of his month-long Birthday Bash at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City.
After kicking off with Return to Forever Unplugged and the Five Peace Band, Chick this week welcomes a first for the Blue Note: the Harlem String Quartet will join him, with longtime collaborator Gary Burton on vibraphone.
"The kind of music my partners and I like to play grew up in small environments, in living rooms and clubs," Chick said. "It’s comfortable to return to the club setting and let it all hang out."
