DUET: Chick & Hiromi

Japanese piano prodigy Hiromi happened to meet Chick before a concert in Tokyo—and to her surprise, he invited her onstage with him the following night.

A dozen years later, in 2008, they joined forces for a series of two-piano adventures. This live double-album is a showcase of pianistic brilliance—a joyride through jazz history, from Gershwin to Monk to Bill Evans and Corea originals with delightful detours into Jobim and the Beatles.

Before their sold-out gig at the Budokan, where 5,500 people took in an intimate two-piano set, Chick and Hiromi spent three days at the Tokyo Blue Note. Chick calls it "the most comfortable 'jazz club' in the world."
