Chick & Stanley Clarke + Special Guests at Catalina’s!

Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock at Catalina's

Stanley and I had a big blast last week at Catalina’s. We basked in our “acoustic jazz” roots and Señor Clarke was at the top of his bass game.

Hubert Laws added such a warm dimension to the music with his beautiful flute sound and regal presence. Marcus Gilmore’s drumming carried and updated the legacy of his grandfather into the 21st century. And my talented wife Gayle Moran Corea warmed the audience with with her virtuosic vocal encores from the 1st version of RTF.

With Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Tim Hauser (founder of Manhattan Transfer) and Jim Meskimen (actor and impressionist) intro-ing the band and Charles Altura, Kamasi Washington, and Dante Winslow heating things up – as I said: we were having a big blast.

Then to top off a great week, my old friend since the 60’s Herbie Hancock dropped in and played 4 hands on the piano with me with Stanley, Hubert and Marcus for our last encore – after which the audience spontaneously sang happy birthday to Herbie!

All in all a very memorable and fun week – – Stanley and I are planning to do some more of this.
