After Chick’s set with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center, he checked out the Marcus Roberts Trio show—here’s Chick’s take on it:
Tonight was a wild and special night. The JALC band smoked and my Gayle was a highlight for the audience and the band, singing on “You’re Everything.” The night was filled with great moments.
But after the show was the best! Gayle and I, along with Lew Solof and Fred Sherry, went over to Dizzy’s Club to see Marcus Roberts trio. After Marcus played 2 wonderful trio pieces, he invited guys up to sit in and it turned out to be an incredible jam. Reminded me of the ’60s.
I played four hands with Marcus, Wynton and a bunch of other guys from the JALC band sat in and it was a Jam Party!! Marcus is an incredible musician. We had a memorable blast!
